Hi! BB Here. I'm a newbee to this site, but I thought I'd better let you know about a remote central locking conversion I've just done to my '93 940 Wentworth Estate. I've read a few posts about this subject, but none of them have been conclusive, so i thought I'd give you the lowdown on what you actually need to do. The entire job took me about 4 hours including fact finding and experimentation. To do the same job again would take about 2 hours. total cost to me was £53.37.
I started with a remote central locking kit from Ebay which cost £30 including postage. The main problem, as you all probably know, is that the 940 only has a switch in the drivers door and not a motor. Having got fed up with breakers not answering my emails, phone calls, etc. for a 960 switch/motor I bought a generic 5 wire motor.
To fit this you need the piece of dextron (drilled flat plate) and rod that comes with the motor. The motor will fit right at the lower aperture of the door and needs to protrude into it slightly to avoid the huge window guide fitted to these models. I will post again with the individual wiring colours if anyone expresses an interest. could email pictures too. The really good thing is that the motor wiring is already present in the door, so you don't have to worry about making a mini-loom up, and that the remaining wiring (the switch wiring) is easily accesible from behind the driver's side kick panel (next to the fuel ECU). It's well worth the average amount of effort involved to be able to press a button when you're loaded down with shopping rather than struggling with keys.
