backfiring and poor running 200 1987

Hellow all, My 240 started right up this moring and was backfiring like crazy and had a top speed of 5 mph. I stopped and turned the car off, disconnected the amm and tried to re-start, no dice , would not start. Pluged the amm back in and she runs great. Anyone know what is going on? Thanks in advance for your help with this.
