960 tachometer fluctuations 900

My 1994 960 tachometer has been acting crazy...
It shows rpm's jumping up or down about 500 rpm very quickly. Also, at stops, it sometimes reads the rpm's at zero. It definitely does not sound like my engine is doing that.
Also, the car is feeling weak, but this may be due to something else.

Any ideas?
