'Heat shield' for wiring harness?

A wiring harness that wraps under the engine and alternator has lost its rubber sheath. I was planning on replacing the sheath but wondered if wrapping it in an aluminium tube would help shield the cables from the engine's heat.

I was thinking of using aluminium roof flashing, cutting it into sections, wrapping it around the harness (being careful of the flashing's sharp edges) and securing it to the harness with plastic ties.

So, what do you think? Smart? Stupid? Ineffective?
