Hey, I've been around the board for years on the 200 forum, but I'm currently fixing up a 1990 740GL wagon for my little brother (who's 21), and I have a few issues. After changing the valve stem seals, the battery was dead. I hadn't been driving the car, but i'm not sure what made the battery die. Once I got it jumped, the radio didn't work. I took it out and noticed the 5A fuse in the back of the radio was blown, so I changed it and now the radio runs and shows numbers and all, but doesn't put out ANY sound. Is the beast fried? Is there anything else in there I should check?
As for the fuel gauge, I've read some about it in the FAQ, but am currently still confused. I took the cluster apart and re-soldered anything that might have needed it, to no avail. I discovered that if you turn the lights on and off a bunch of times, sometimes it suddenly makes the gauge start to work. No idea why. Any clues/ hints? I'm very interested.
This car has new brakes and struts/shocks all around and has practically no rust. she's a beauty. Once I get these last few issues sorted out, my brother is going to have a sweet car. thanks for any advice!
