a/c bypass and belt issues...please help!

I purchased the IPD a/c bypass kit for my 79 245. Installing was a 5 minute job, but then my problems began. The steering pump vibrates pretty violently now. I thought that my rotten bushings under the pump might be the culprit, but replacing them did not help. The belt had too much slack, so I had person wrap a strap around the top of the pump and pull with their legs while I torqued the adjustment bolts. Now the belt is much tighter, but the problem is unchanged. Pulling the pump towards the firewall with the engine on does not help, however, pulling the pump towards the radiator does. This made me think that the A/C condenser is not in right anymore (more rotten bushings?)...but I can't tell how to get the thing off. This is my real question now, b/c I think it would just be less hassle to go back to the old setup, but I can't get a new crank-to-a/c belt on without moving the a/c...what do I do? Anyone else had these problems?

Luiz
