I was informed that my steering had play in it by a garage. I have investigated since and the only real play I can find is in the Steering Universal Joint that connect the column to the rack. I am looking at tightening the bolts that hold this together but I notice they have small clips close to the nuts that will need tightening. How do I get around these clips and what torque should I be tightening too.....also what kind of problems could this play cause....the car does pull to the left but whether that is the due to the play I doubt....I was looking to change the balljoints as they look quite old and I get vert slight shake on braking through the steering wheel...but dont want to spend good money on things I dont require. I would guess my next step after tightening would be to change the U/Joint but I presume this is a main dealer only part or I would have to get used one. If it does come down to this whats the job like to chenge them...does it involve dismantling of the steering rack at all.
