valve adjustment 200 1990

Just wondered how important it is to have the valves adjusted. I have no idea if or when it was done on my 90'I bought a year ago. I do notice some valve tap, but it is very minor. Should I have it done, and how much should I expect to pay to have my indie do it? Thanks in advance.
