Could someone help me please! I'm trying to do the crank position sensor on my '90 240DL wagon. I've managed to get a 10mm socket in there with a universal joint and a long extension, and get the bolt out. As i've read is often the case, the sensor itself is stuck. Now I don't really understand how, even after 15 years, a plastic sensor can get so stuck in a plastic bracket, but I've tried all of the good ideas I've read (penetrating oil, twisting gently, etc.) and even some things I know I shouldn't do (prying with a screwdriver, trying to get a chisel in, tapping gently with a hammer and a hardwood dowel). Nothing is budging the thing!
My mechanic (who is very good, but I must say did not catch the rather obvious problem last month when he did the clutch and motor mounts) said that there's not much he can do that I can't, short of dropping the gearbox. I don't want to pay $350 and not have my car for as long as that will take. Can anyone help me?
