Well, I finally did it. I just picked up an '87 240DL SW with 5-speed. The body is in terrific condition, no rust around the tailgate or wheelwells, very clean inside, and only 98,000 miles!!! Thats roughly 5500 miles a year!!! Aside from the single crack on the dash and a split on the vinyl seat, the interior is really good. Heck, the glove box even stays closed when I hit bumps, unlike my 88 sedan!!! Price: $2000.00
So, now that I've got this new toy, any tips or suggestions to make her last as long as my 88 has (290,000 miles and still going...). I figured I'd start with an oil change, coolant change, new brake pads and rotors (warped), cap, rotor, plugs, air filter, clean out the throttle body & PCV system... Anything else?
Also, aside from the inevitable wiring harness job I'll have to do, is there anything else different on the 87's as compared to my 88 that I should know about?
Thanks for the ideas,
Doug
