I posted a request recently for an ECU. I may still need that. My engine failed to start and when I couldn't get any spark out of a plug, but did get it out of the coil to the distributor, I bought a new cap/rotor. The rotor had shorted to the distributor shaft it seems. Well, that got the car "running" again.
Symptoms are now this:
1. Car seems to idle well and accelerate smoothly when cold.
2. at some point after it heats up a bit, it begins to "buck" under load of anyu kind. It cuts out when rolling to a stop with the clutch in (straight stick).
3. It always restarts immediately.
4. I generally have a bad time getting it up to speed because of the bucking and loss of power that seems very intermittent.
4. Reving the engine and slowly engaging the clutch seems to get it going better than any attempt at a smooth start (generally simply loses power)
5. The engine clearly is running very rich based on the heavy gasoline smell and smoke at the exhaust.
6. No popping or backfiring is ever heard. It just loses power, then momentarily gains it, then loses again. It cuts out then at idle after it warms up.
7. What should I be checking?
I can put a fuel pressure guage on it so that I can see it while driving, if necessary.
