Any difficulties changing the water pump on a '93? 200 1993

I've decided to replace my water pump -- I'm getting higher temperatures (confirmed by pulling over quickly and scanning with a RayTek IR therm. on the radiator tank and thermostat housing) when running at highway speeds (despite a new IPD 3-row radiator and thermostat, and fresh 50:50 coolant), although it cools down at idle. Evidently, it's not pumping water fast enough when it's needed most (~75-80 mph in hot weather).

Anyway, although I've done it on earlier 240's, I remember (vaguely) reading that on these later cars (such as my '93), loosening or adjusting the belts requires splitting (separating the halves of) the crank pulley ... is this true, or did I imagine this (a "senior moment")? And if it's true, is this a hard job?

Is there anything else (surprises), compared to an older car (B21 and B23 from early '80's), that I should know about?

I'm also going to change my fan clutch (coupling?), as a precaution.

Thanks, in advance, for any warnings or advice.
