Wagon has illusive rattle 200

Seeking suggestions please on where to find that rattle at the rear of my 245 1986 manuals trans Volvo. Have tried, wrapping the tires tools in burlap, no help: resetting the strike on the rear hatch latch (helped a little) having someone sit in the rear cargo comp and "feel" for the loose item when I drove the car over the known rattle sections of pavement, no help. Did I mention the third seat has been removed. Trailing arm bushings were replaced, helped some: where to go next? The rattle never happens when I'm pulling my trailer with a +500# load. Thanks for taking your time to provide suggestion. Jim
