My '80 GT blew a heater core, and after getting the core out, I'm down to trying to replace the blower motor (wanted to do it "while I'm in the neighborhood", as advised by many who have gone before me !). I've now gotten the heater control switch off, and am ready to replace the blower motor.

Problem is - I don't see how the entire heater assembly should come out, to let me get the blower out that way -- but I also don't see a way to remove just the left side of the heater assembly, to get the blower motor out with the heater assembly remaining still in place.

The heater assembly seems to be part of the housing around the AC condenser. All the pics I've seen at various web sites seem to be of non-AC 240's. There is one bracket just inside of the heater control switch (it's been removed), that seems to screw the whole heater assembly to the floor, but it doesn't seem to me that will free the thing up to move out. It's too secure to just be held there by one bracket. It feels like it's secured at the front, near the firewall.

If the multiple clips on the left side of the heater assembly are removed, will that whole panel come off, and then permit access to/removal of the blower motor from the driver's side footwell - WITHOUT pulling the heater assembly ? Or, if the whole heater assembly has to come out, what all up by the firewall has to be loosened to let that thing move freely ? I was hoping not to have to screw with the AC piping.

Thank god this is a hobby car -- it's taken MUCH longer than it should have, but that's mainly because I don't know the territory. Lesson ? Know your limitations - I certainly do now !!
