My 89 240dl is an excellent car overall. Aside from the fan blower motor being the pain in the ass that it is to change, I really can't complain about this car except for the price of the parts BUT HEY, that's to be expected when a person owns a european jobbie. So after nearly a year of driving this car, I have run into problem number 2 and here it is.
The chime that reminds me when I leave the keys in the car (one of the doors has to be open as well as keys left in car) is driving me f___ing nuts! It has went from part-time to full-time active duty and won't shut up, no matter what is going on with the rest of the car. As long as the key is in the ignition switch (even in the off position) the chime is active, whether I'm driving down the freeway at 65 mph or at a dead stop, it's ding, ding, ding, ding until I feel like tearing all the wiring out of the car. Making matters worse is the fact that my stereo decided to quit about the same time the chime decided to become fully active. What I know so far is this: PULLING FUSES MAKES NO DIFFERENCE, THERE IS NO SEPERATE CIRCUIT FOR THE IGNITION CHIME (OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED)--AND--ALL FOUR INDIVIDUAL DOOR ACTIVATION SWITCHES (THE SWITCH THAT TELLS THE CAR WHETHER THE DOOR IS OPEN OR SHUT) HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED AS BEEING THE CULPRIT. With this said, can anyone tell me where the ignition chime is actually located so I can pull it out and toss it? Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
