Going through water pumps. 700 1990

My 90 744ti has had a history of going through water pumps. At first the pumps would come loose due to the bolts backing out. That was fixed with new bolts and nuts.
The latest problem has been the pumps leaking through the weep hole on the bottom of the pump. The first two pumps were from Car Quest. The first one was replaced by a general repair shop and I warranted it. The last one that has been one the car for two or three months is from my local import jobber. When I replaced the last pump I changed the green radiator cap for a gray one. I tried to get a black one but was told that had been replaced with the gray one. I did this thinking there was to much pressure in the system but if that was the case it did not work as it is leaking as we speak.
I am at a loss at having three bad pumps in a row failing from same problem.
Does anyone have and answer?
