How to disarm car alarm 900 1995

I locked our Volvo with the electronic signal device but when I came out of the grocery store I could not get the car to unlock.

This is a factory installed alarm system.

My 7 year old son said "Dad had the same problem last week...." and proceeded to tell me to unlock the door with my car key and then lock it again.

That just set off the alarm. We tried the elec. over and over, called a Volvo dealer who said to just shut all the doors and relock and unlock with the key...didn't work.

The tow truck man disconnected the battery in hopes of resetting the alarm. Didn't work.

The Volvo mechanic (via phone) said maybe one of the doors isn't latching properly and the car thinks a door is open. The hatchback door seems to have about a quarter inch play in it. I does not SEEM to be locking all the way.

My problem is they towed me home, disconnected the battery as the flashers were still going-I guess that is part of the deal when your alarm has been triggered.

Are we stuck towing this puppy 45 minutes away to the dealer, or is there some magic fix we can do to get the alarm to stop? The car still will not start when you put the key into the ignition and with the battery connected, we still get the alarm when we open a door.

Frustrated in Anacortes!
