83 DL stalling/hard start/oil sensors 200

This is the system with a computer by the passenger fender fed by vacuum hose.
Car is non turbo, but is equipped with oil PSI and oil TEMP guages. my friend reports his intermittemt stalling problem is eliminated by unplugging the 2 terminal oil sending unit behind&below the alternator. Does this part have the power to interrupt fuel/spark?
Can a new sender be had for under the $150 quoted by the local shop?
is it a shared sensor for the two guages, or some other arrangement?
