I have two 89 dl's. One runs perfect; the latest one I bought had a problem. As soon as I start to crank it, it often fires so hard (early?) the starter stalls violently. This is going to kill the starter unless I can find the problem. It runs so so after I get it started.
I checked timing belt, cleaned throttle body, TPS, no codes, checked wiring of CPS, unhooked KS and it still did it, unhooked AMM and it still did it. Timing when idling is way advanced compared to other 89DL. Rotor bug is new, cap was changed out with known good one. I just remembered another hint from someone that I haven't tried: looking for vacuum leaks. I guess I'll try to squirt oil around the intake tomorrow while idling.
Is instantaneous firing upon cranking a clue?
