My 940 2.3 SE Turbo, 1996 model, M90 5 speed manual, 82000 miles is gradually going more gutless. With the airco running it often gently misfires. The distrubutor cap, leads, rotor arm and plugs are new.
If it's driven on light throttle it doesn't drive quite right, it seems to surge slightly. My diagnosis for this is a failing Lamda Sond.
The lack of power is likely a stuck open EGR valve. I have blocked off the pipe into the manifold, (loosened the 2 bolts and stuffed a folded sheet of tinfoil twixt pipe and maifold) and the car drives way better. Question is do I give some money to Volvo for a spanking new valve or just block it in a slightly more workmanlike fashion?
I also propose to change the manifold gasket and injector seals.
It's an OBD 2 car and I don't have a code reader.
I'm also going to put a Simons big bore exhaust system on it, have the pipe to completely junk the cat, but that isn't "strictly legal" here any experience of running one without a cat?
Comments please.
Regards
Pete
