On saturday I successfully replaced my ball joints on my 87 244, they would make a pop/clunk noise when I turned almost to full extention of the wheel at a low speed (ie backing out of driveway). After I completed the job i drive the car and was happy to experience that the pop/clunk had gone away, and i could not make it happen.
So today, Sunday, I move on to my next project and replaced my 4 cracking front brake hoses and replaced the old break fluid in the system. Job went smootly, however on the test drive of this project, to my disbelief, that stuid pop/clunk that I thought was gone after the ball joint job occured again backing out of the drive way.
What is going on? Why would this noise return after 1 day of not happening? I don't think it is coming from something else in the frontend because this spring I replaced the control arm bushing, installed ipd swaybars, so there isn't much left. The only thing i don't know about is the outer tie rod ends. The appear to be fine and I have no reason to believe they are bad. Could this be a defective replacement ball joint? OR something that I am missing...
Thanks for the help!
