HELP no cranking 200 1989

240 b230f 1989 300k kilometers exc condition

battery is 3 yrs old

last week it was cranking somewhat slowish.
This morning, it was obviously slow, I assumed the battery was gone.
After work, it cranked over 1 time, then that's it. No more cranking, no clicking, nothing.

The dash lights are on. The voltmeter (VDO) still shows full 14.5 ish with key on, drops to about 14 when trying to crank. The dash lights do not dim when I am trying to crank, which is strange.

I tried boosting, strange thing - no spark or any load whatsoever when I connect the cables with other car running.

I have a feeling it is neither the battery nor the starter. Bad ground?
How does the power stage fit into this, if at all?

Any help appreciated.
