OK following my post from yesterday...
Can someone confirm my understanding of the wiring to the starter assembly:
1.. There are two thick red.
I assume these are positive +12V from the battery. Not sure why there are two.
Both on the same post of the solenoid.
2.. One small white/red wire. Small terminal on the solenoid.
I thought this was from the ignition switch, providing +12v when engine is *cranked*. I have +12V on this when key is ON, why?
3.. Ground from starter chassis to engine block to car frame and battery.
I tried the following:
- Boost from my other car directly to engine ground and battery+, does not crank.
- running a wire from battery+ to the small terminal on the starter, does not crank.
- running a ground from battery to starter chassis, does not crank.
*When I say it does not crank, it does not even click the solenoid.*
OK then I wacked the starter and solenoid with a hammer a few times, it clicked, turned very slowly 1/2 turn, then stopped. Clicked a few times when turning key, then no more clicking.
Is the starter seized up or partially shorted internally?
Note that last summer I installed a remote starter, is the relay box shorted?
Any advice helps.
