I have a 1987 240 wagon with AT and 280K miles. When the car is started cold it idles rough and usually dies when put into gear. After restarting it a few times it runs fine and idles smoothly. I recently had my AMM go bad and replaced it with a used one from a junkyard. While trouble shooting the AMM problem I cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the IAC valve, and adjusted the throttle posistion switch.
I have also recently replaced the main and tank fuel pumps, the fuel pump relay, the fuel pressure regulator, the 25 amp fuse holder, the alternator, and the overdrive solenoid - so much for the great deal I got on this car!
I did not clean the used AMM when I installed it. Has anyone cleaned an AMM - if so what did you use? Also, could my adjustment of the throttle switch have caused this - I tried to follow the procedure in the haynes manual but could have it out of spec.
Any other ideas of what this could be?
Thanks
