I have a 96 960 I bought used with about 67k on it. At about 75k the Oil light came on and stayed on. When I took it to my mechanic he told me that the specilized lube systems of these engines (smaller orifices and more places for oil to pool) were supposed to let you go longer between changes because of greater efficienct, pressure, etc. However, they ended up causing increased sludging of the oil, as it heated up more and gummed up.
Since then I have had the screen cleaned twice (first time 98% clogged). The second time the oil light only came on at idle in gear, and fluttered at that. AFter the second cleaning I went 1100 before the next oil change, then drove it another 1000 and the fluttering light came back on. I changed the oil and it stopped.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
