Ball joints pop out 140-160

Both of the upper ball joints popped out on my 140; not at the same time, about 1 year and 5,000 miles apart. So far I have just pushed them back in and welded a little bit. I was thinking of making a strap of some sort of 1/8th" steel and bolting it to the control arm over the ball joint to prevent this from happening.
Any other suggestions? What do you racers use?
Any help would be greatly appreciated- Thanks!
