Back to work on the Yellow Peril -- D-jet question 140-160 1973

With the KC meet coming up and the Dutch Volvo Club coming nearby, I've
decided that my ONE running Volvo, the 69 164 is a bit ratty and I have not
wanted to fix it up because I need it to drive. So I went back to work on the
infamous Yellow Peril, which has all the makings of a good driveable car (other
than some possible temperament issues). I had already put a proven computer
in it and a proven MAPSensor, so I put fresh gas in the tank this morning and
filled the cooling system and tried to crank it up. It would sorta run as long
as I kept fanning the gas pedal (triggering the injectors with the throttle
switch) but not otherwise. This told me, "It's not getting triggering pulses!"
So I pulled the fat wire from the coil and got down on the distributor with
my ohm meter and got my wife to crank the engine. WOW!!! I had my elbow against the open nose of the coil! All those electrons suddenly found
somewhere to go!! After rerouting myself we tried it again and found that
upon cranking I got intermittent continuity between both 21 and 12 and also
between 22 and 12, as it should be. So I unhooked the cable from the computer
and checked it there. After some messing around with the meter and the
connector I got the same at the computer cable connector. Then I checked
between 12 and ground and found no continuity. Is #12 supposed to be grounded
somewhere in the wiring harness or is it just grounded in the computer?

I pulled out my spare wiring harness and didn't find 12 going anywhere but to
the center connection to the triggering points, so this may be a non-issue.

Anyway, I think I have the triggering point connection OK and have tightened
up all the pinchers in the cable connector so they will bite the edge of the
board on the computer. Does anyone have any other ideas why it might not
be triggering?

Many thanks,
--
