Problem With Cylinder # 3 900 1995

Hello,
At last I find the a used cylinder head. The motor starts, but cylinder # 3 does not work and has no compression. My mechanic can't tell for certain what the problem might be. He says it could be that the piston rings are worn, but that is not possible because the motor was running fine before the valve interference had occurred and bent the valves. What could cause the cylinder # 3 not to have compression? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
