240DL 86 Fuel & Temp Gauges Die Simultaneously 200

The Fuel and Temp gauges on my '86 240DL Sedan (Manual Transmission) intermittently and randomly drop to zero and they do so simultaneously. Other lights, turn signals etc. all seem to work fine. From searching the forums, it seems that are a number of things that would cause individual gauge failure, but the random occurrence and simultaneous loss of readings on the gauges indicate some common path. Would the most likely cause of this behavior be a bad instrument panel voltage regulator ?

The mechanical odometer and trip odometer also just quit working today after I bought gas and pressed the trip reset button. Is it time for a new instrument panel ?
