945T overdrive won't engage 900 1993

1993 945T, about 213k miles.

The overdrive disengaged indicator (the amber up arrow)
came on by itself as I started the engine. It refused
to go away and the shifting pattern confirmed it - it
did not shift into overdrive.

This had happened recently a couple of times but it
went away by itself after a few minutes.
