tried search but no luck pinpointing my problem. have 91 245 auto w/265k, battery 1 year old and alternator about 2 years old. lately it's been hot/humid on long island and a/c on almost all the time. 2 nites ago i noticed that my dash illumination and head lights were flickering (at a constant rate, like 4 'beats' per second). the flickering did not really diminish the head lights to make the situation dangerous, just annoying and causing anxiety as to whether the system was charging properly. the a/c was on but turning off the a/c didnt have a measurable affect on the flickering (at no time did any of the warning lights come on or ever dimly light up). just now checked voltage in system with voltmeter (sent to the 20 dc volt scale) and found, 12.6 at the battery before starting, alternating between 14.09-14.14 when running (again, jumping between those numbers about 4 times per second. when a/c and headlights turned on those numbers stay pretty constant (but with the 4 beat per second flicker) but briefly dipping down to 13.06 when fan momentarily kicks in, then recovers back to 14.04-14.14, again all the while with the jump or flicker, 4 times per second. this jump in readings roughly corresponds with the dash illumination/headlight flicker i noticed the other night. is the built in voltage regulator going? all connections are clean and tight, all wires have continuity. belts are tight and less than 1 year old with no slipping. is it me? thanks in advance.
