B230A in America? 1985

Howdy all,

Well I just looked at a local '85 744 "Gle" that was apparently brought over new in 1985 by a diplomat from South Africa. Along with its M47, it seems to have a B230A (or maybe a B200A, or B230K???). Any way to positively identify this beast?

My only carburetor experience is on mid-to-late 80s Chevy and GMC midsize trucks, and a really old Ford. I remember them as good, but occasionally fickle. All of my Volvos have had fuel injection of either the mechanical or electrical type--nearly bullet-proof in my experience.

Does anyone else have one of these? What type of carb might it have (it seems to be the factory original)? Can parts still be found? The air intake tube is gone, and it's got a new K&N filter. The distributor has been switched from the back of the head to the front drivers side. The tach doesn't work. What's going with all that? It runs and drives great, but it's a potential wife mobile, so it needs to be Reliable. The interior is really good and the price is right...but I'm not sure about this whole carb thing. It looks simple enough, but somehow confuses me. I know K-Jet and LH-Jet cold...seems silly to stray the course. I like the car though (brakes, tires, paint, no rust). Oh, and she diesels pretty good when shut down...any advice there?

Input is truly appreciated!
Thank you!

Warmly,
