'84 catalytic converter...which to buy? 200

My car has a little too much rattle and roar for my liking. I'm going to replace the cat (rattles really bad @ 3300-3500 RPM, get a new muffler (1) and a pipe out the back.

Right now I have the later kind, built on to the pipe. It looks like a cheap replacement (Car has a lot of miles)

Should I go to the small cat and separate pipe to muffler, or the one piece?

Which is cheaper, I heard someone on the BB bought a $75 cat at Auto zone

And can I just buy an off-the-shelf muffler to fit, and find a shop that would put a pipe at the end of it? I don't like the double setup.

Here's what IPD has to say about it:

200 non-turbo 1982-1984 Catalytic Converter (12.25"-13.00" Length) WS99935

200 non-turbo 1984-92 Catalytic Converter with pipe (no EGR) WS99937

So apparently the one piece is for no EGR only? I would like to make sense of all this, because I think I have an EGR system. Thanks!
