Cruise control connections 200 1991

I installed a cruise control setup on our '91 244. It engages, but the speed gradually decays. The system doesn't seem to compensate for engine speed for engine speed changes.

There don't seem to be any vacuum leaks, and the I know the vacuum pump is functioning to a at least a certain degree. I have two questions.

- The front of the pump has two nipples, one black and one white. The vacuum line to the passenger compartment connects to the black nipple. On the donor car, there was nothing connected to the white nipple. Is it just an air inlet, or should another hose be attached?

- Do I need to pull the instrument cluster and connect some wire to the speedometer, or doers this connection come "standard"? The there was an unused fitting under the dash for one connectors on the little cruise control harness. I just plugged in and assumed the instrument cluster connection was in place.

Naturally, I am open to any other troubleshooting suggestions! Thanks.
