Stupid TORX thermostat housing!!! 900

Who was the genius that decided to use torx screws on the thermostat housing? For that matter who came up with TORX? I can't remove these things for the life of me. I've been soaking the area with liquid wrench for hours now. I already stripped 2 T40 sockets. GRRRRR!!!!
Does anybody know if I can use regular screws from a red block to replace these torx things?
