Well, after all of the bragging, something else went south in the solid state climate control on my 88 765. This car has an electrical system that does not show up on any schematic that I've found and is a bear to trouble shoot.
A fellow BrickBoarder, Dave, let me have a control unit out of an 85 760, but it too is an old solid state unit so I decided to retro the thing back to an electro-pneumatic control from an 88 744 that I am parting out. So far I have been able to remove the servo motor that controls the heat/cold and prepare it for a cable operation, and I've matched all of the pneumatics so that the vent selector is now being controlled by the slide bar on the manual climate control unit. That was easy since all of the hoses are color coded.
I am not using the existing electrical circuitry preferring to put the wiring harness and relays in from the 88 744 and bypassing the original. The project will be finished with pictures by the end of the week.
The worst part was seeing the "Made in France" emblem on the heater box. No wonder it doesn't hold up under pressure!
Regards,
