93 940 wagon tail light 900

Had the driver side tail light replaced maybe two years ago when it cracked. I used a knock off rather than the original. Cost only $70 or so.

The other day I noticed the bulb failure warning light come on. It was the brake lights. Checked all bulbs. None were bad. Removed the driver side tail light assembly. The plastic around the brake light was melted. There is no voltage when brake pedal is depressed. I then checked the wire coming out of the brake light switch. It was hot. So the filament monitor must have sensed uneven amperage between the two sides and thinks there is a bulb failure.

What are my options? Replace the assembly with an oem?
