95 940 report on urethane conrtrol arm cone bushing replacement 900

All,

after reading the FAQs about the cone bushing replacement, I was beginning to wonder if I was better off leaving them alone. Fear not, the job is not difficult. At 150k miles, my 95 940 sedan control arm cone bushings were flattened and cracked. I used FCP Groton black urethane replacement bushings. Yes, they were a bit longer than the old worn out rubber bushings, but the bolts were not difficult to get started in the threads and with very little persuasion, it went back together smoothly.

The suspension feels slightly tighter, but the ride and handling are not significantly different. Cone bushing replacement is nothing to be scared of, IMHO. One last thing, contrary to the FAQs, my 95 940 required 3 size wrenches/sockets, 17mm, 18mm and 21mm. A small mallet was helpful.
