2.4 LH conversion 200

Ok,
I posted a question about converting my 2002 bmw to 2.4 LH EFI last week.
When I left off, it seemed that I would have difficulty w/ the flywheel mounted tone ring for a spark signal. On earlier (2.2 LH) conversions, people use the coil for a trigger. So here's my question now, after thinking and discussing it w/ some other gearheads...

Could I line up a resistor from the coil to the ecu to get the spark trigger? That is how the 2.2 gets it's trigger right? Any way of making that work?
