Heater won't shut off. 200

I've posted here before, but I think its been too long, and the post has fallen off the board. Unfortunately, I didn't fix the problem righ taway, and so I need your help again.

I drive an 81 240 wagon. It runs great except that the heater is stuck in the "full-blast" position. This was fine in winter, but my husband and I recently drove to central Oregon, and nearly died from heat stroke.

All I really want to do is shut it off. I don't want to try to repair control, or anything complicated. Can I just clamp a cable or unhook something. We're planning to make that drive again, so I'm motivated!
