This has to be about the easiest thing I've done to my brick yet! I clocked myself at 1.5 hours and that was only because I was taking my time to make sure I was installing correctly--it just seemed too darn easy! Plus, it took me a minute to figure out that the top bolt is accessed at the top of the wheel well behind the rubber plug.
What a difference!! This should have been done 20k miles ago at least (I've only had the car for <1k miles). And, I feel good about the price. Got them from Autohaus AZ for about $230ea. - 2% discount for orders over $250 - free shipping = Good deal. Plus, since I live in CA, shipping only took two days anyway. Yeah, I'm sure I could have gone the IPD conversion route and saved about $100, but as easy as this was, it was money well spent. Trust me! Also, the one time I think I agree with the dealer: Volvo sells Nivomat kits for live axle models but NOT IRS models and strongly advises against such modifications. Now, we all know that Volvo has to take the PC route, but given the fact that they DO sell their own for live axle cars but not IRS leads me to believe that there's merit in this policy. Anyway...
One question remains: The Boge box had instructions on how to relieve the pressure and drain the hydraulic fluid out of the old ones for proper disposal, but aren't you not supposed to puncture them? Is it okay because they're old and worn out? I definitely want to dispose of the old ones properly (although I'm half tempted to hang them in the garage as a trophy of another irrational, self-limiting fear overcome thanks to my Haynes manual and, of course, brickboard).
