bench bleeding (priming ) the brake MC 120-130

Attempted to bench bleed the dual circuit MC, never did it before, therefore curious about following observation:

Filled up the reservoir with fluid, applied the push rod until fluid shot out. Put fingers over the 2 holes, and released push rod (idea being, no air would be sucked back in)

I carried the MC back to my car, then noticed brake fluid leaking out of the 2 holes. I could swear that the level in the reservoir began dropping also

Is this normal, or does it mean something is screwy with MC rebuild?

For what it's worth, the pedal action did improve somewhat, but still not like before. The way it is now, pedal to floorboard distance is approximately 6 inches. Braking takes effect when pedal is about 4 inches from floorboard. This is with car off, no booster effect.
