I've inherited my parents 1988 245DL recently and have dumped about $2000 in repairs at the local shop. It runs great so far, but doesn't look so pretty as my parents have failed to keep it clean and neat. There's some oil leaking from it and my mechanic said that it's not a big deal so long as I keep oil in the car. My mechanic has been servicing Volvo's exclusively since 1976, so I trust his assessment.
The question I have is if it's worth holding on to this car and just dumping dollars into it to make it all it can be? I love to drive it and I love the heavy feel of the car. There' much I want to do to it asthetically and mechanically. It's non-turbo/automatic; so I realize it's not the most desireable for zipping around. I love to drive fast and was able to make it from Hartford, CT to NYC, NY in 1.5 hours. (The trip takes most folks 2.5-3 hours, so my brick flew and handled all the traffic and turns well).
Anyhow, sorry to make my first post such a rant, but any advice is well appreciated.
Regards, David
