Electric Cooling Fan Follow-up 900 1993

Thanks to Steve R, Dave and Sven's Maintainer for helping diagnose my cooling fan problem from last week. Unfortunately, even after replacing the relay, the fan continues to run (for a long time) after I shut the engine down. After replacing the relay, the system appeared to work well in the short term, but after a long hot run with AC on, the fan clicked off, then after I was away, clicked back on and continued to run. When I checked the car in the morning, the battery was dead. I was able to get her started with a hot-shot from my 1986 745T, the "good" car at the moment. After I got the 940 running, I pulled the middle connector off the cooling fan relay, which goes to the ECU. That shuts the fan off, as does removing the connector to the fan and the black ground wire attached to the rail next to the radiator, passengers side. I am able to drive the car by simply disconnecting the fan from the system after I shut the car off.

Dave and Steve's posts suggested that the relay would be the most likely culprit, but that alternatives might be sensors or ECU. I suspect sensors or ECU at this point. Any suggestions for locating the sensors so I can eliminate one more component from the diagnosis?

Thanks in advance.

Jack
