I just replaced a clutch last weekend for the first time and I decided to remove the clutch housing from the gearbox to replace the gasket and check for leaks. Right when I loosened a couple of bolts from the housing, a leak sprung from the countershaft portion of the gearcase. Is this supposed to happen after separation or do I have a broken internal seal? There was a loose fitting ring on the outer countershaft bearing that I tapped back into place and no shim on the countershaft hole. I replaced the gasket (without sealing paste unfortunately) and bolted the clutch housing back onto the gearbox. I filled the transmission with 2L of fluid (cap=2.3, some could have been left after draining), but went over the fill plug limit becuse the hose I used plugged the hole to allow me to fill beyond the hole without spillage. When I took the hose out, fluid came out and I quickly plugged the hole with the filler bolt. There is a small leak at the interface. Maybe a couple of mL/day. Could the leak be due to overfilling (The filler plug is about level with the countershaft)? Are there horrible consequences to overfilling? Can I use some kind of sealant around the gearbox/clutch housing junction to stop the leak. I would like an easy fix becase taking the tranny off and putting it back on by myself was excruciating. Thanks
