i'm getting ready to drive my 240 out to school in pittsburgh from new jersey and i've been checking out some things and have developed a few questions. I bought the car about two weeks ago, so i am not totally acquainted with it, although i have done a lot of work on it in those few weeks.
First of all, it seems that over the years there have been numerous bolts/brackets taken out of the engine compartment during service and not replaced. I replaced the obvious things, but there are a few others that look sort of suspicious. I took two pictures and loaded them into the image library, so i'll try to link to them. maybe it will work ( i'm not the best with computers...)
The first is a bracket bolted onto the frame near the alternator. there is nothing in it now, and nothing that looks like it should go into it and just slipped out. the bracket looks like it should hold a radiator hose-sized cylinder. the image can be found at: http://brickboard.com/GALLERY/volvo_picture.5408.html Does anyone know what is supposed to go there?
Secondly, there is a hose underneath the radiator that comes from the air intake housing. It has threads at the end, but just ends, and i wasnt sure if it was supposed to connect somewhere. Note that the car was missing the 'belly pan' when i bought the car. Here is a photo from underneath the car of the hose ending: http://brickboard.com/GALLERY/volvo_picture.5409.html
Finally, there is a relatively loud creaking sound coming from the rear pass. side wheel when i make hard left turns. I would guess this is due to a warn bushing, but does anyone have any other ideas? The suspension/bushings etc is all rather old, i wouldnt be surprised if it were original.
thanks a lot, and sorry again for the long post.
