IAC CLEANING! 200 1989

Well I finally got around to cleaning my IAC after an erractic idle problem on my 1989 240 (215000kms) . Is it right that their should be small gap where the valve does not close fully. I've read some achived stuff which helped. My question is it correct that you should be able to push it back and forth by sticking a small screwdriver in the opening while spraying it with cleaner. Thankyou
