How can a new fuel pump RELAY increase power? 200 1987

I was having a missing under acceleration and stalling/no-start problem so I replaced the fuel pump relay only in my 93 240.

* Can someone plates explain to me how changing out just the fuel pump relay would give my car so much more power?

I thought I was imagining this so asked my wife to drive it and tell me what she thought.
She came home and asked who released the tiger?

This increase in power is not small but very apparent.
