I want to know if my fuel gauge is bad or my sending unit.
I thought that if I grounded the fuel gauge wire, then, the needle should jump to the "full" position & tell me that the sending unit is faulty.
There are four wires on the sending unit. One is BLACK and is attached to the "cover" of the sending unit. Then, there are three others that go into the sending unit through three separate white plastic wire holders that I am afraid to yank. I tried troubleshooting by scraping off some insulation to expose bare wire on these three wires & then variously jumpered them to chassis ground, "ground" lug on the sending unit cover, and/or +12v, key on & key off expecting to learn which powers the gas gauge, low fuel lamp, and pre-pump.
Nothing revealed. No change in pump, gauge, lamp. What am I doing wrong?
