Anybody know about a problem with replacement fuel pumps? In the past three months I have had three primary fuel pumps lock up on my 1988 780 V6. We have rebuilt this car from the gas tank forward. Drained and washed out the tank, replaced the tank pump and filter. Replaced the primary fuel filter and pump. We have had some gremlins in the wiring from decomposed connectors, but have gotten past all that and replaced the connectors with good old soldered wires.
It seems that every time I get the car off the jack stands, the fuel pump locks up. The pumps that I am buying are from AutoZone and they have a "lifetime" warrantee, but this is past the point of being silly.
I suspect that there is a latent failure with the pumps, but is it possible that the car is doing something that is causing this problem? I am open for all ideas. I am now a pro at replaceing the fuel pump, but would rather drive the car.
